Teen Breathe – Issue 9

Tomorrow, next week, next month: it’s easy to put off for another day a task that, well, just doesn’t appeal that much or seems so daunting that even thinking about it can make you feel ill. The trouble is, delaying jobs – AKA procrastinating – tends to make them even less attractive and a lot more stressful.

There are ways to make things easier (Teen Breathe’s favourite is breaking them down into smaller, more manageable chunks). But it’s just as important to open up about any underlying or additional worries you might have, be they fears about revising for mock exams or confusion because a friend’s blanked you.

A parent or guardian isn’t always the go-to choice. They might appear to be on a totally different wavelength or be really busy with work and seem pretty stressed themselves. This doesn’t, however, stop them wanting to be there for you.

So, choose a quiet moment and maybe tell them you’d appreciate their opinion. They’ll love it (honestly) – and there’s a good chance they’ll be able to suggest some fresh ideas. Just try not to put it off for too long.
